You've hit a wall with your spike, and more reps aren't fixing it.

I'm building an app for that. Film one spike on your phone. You get back a frame from your own clip with your mistake drawn on it, and what to change.

For volleyball players who can't get a coach to watch every rep.

Contact

You hit the ball behind your hitting shoulder.

Reach up and hit it above your shoulder, a little in front, arm straight.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Film one spike

Set your phone on the side of your hitting arm. Use slow motion if your phone has it.

  2. Step 2

    Send it

    One clip is enough.

  3. Step 3

    See your mistake

You get a frame from your own clip with the mistake drawn on it, and what to change.

What it checks

Five things, in the order they happen in a spike. You see the first one holding you back.

  1. 1Approach

You start slow and finish fast.

  2. 2Last steps and jump

Your second-to-last step is the longest, and you land close to where you took off.

  3. 3Elbow

Your elbow stays away from your ribs until contact.

  4. 4Arm swing

Your hips and chest start the swing, and your arm finishes it.

  5. 5Contact

You hit the ball at full reach, above and a little in front of your hitting shoulder.

The checks come from coaching sources and a study of the arm swings of 167 Olympic players.
